Remembering 25 Years of Human Factor

As we celebrate 25 years of combining art with medicine in Human Factor magazine, we remember that very first issue in 1999 with an excerpt from the introduction, penned by the late Marjorie Sirridge, M.D. The Sirridge Office of Medical Humanities at the School of Medicine was founded by Sirridge and her husband, William, in 1992.

“Our office of Medical Humanities is now just over six years old, and it really gives me great pleasure to introduce the first edition of our new annual publication, The Human Factor. In our many medical humanities courses emphasis is placed on describing the human experience and poetry, stories, essays, music, and art. It is from such creative activities that the submissions to our magazine have come. We hope to continue this publication at least annually in the future and to circulate it to students, faculty, and alumni.”
